How to tell if your carburetor requires a rebuild
Common signs..
- Does your carburetor need to be rebuilt? One easy test you can do on most Holley carburetors, is to adjust your idle mixture. The engine should respond to adjusting the idle mixture screw, as long as the idle RPM is set. If not, then the carburetor probably needs to be cleaned.
- Another sign could be when your carburetor is flooding. You might see the fuel flooding into the carburetor, or you are getting a strong gasoline smell while running. Surging can be another sign. This is from plugged carburetor circuits. Fuel comes and goes, which causes a surging action.
- Does your fuel smell like varnish? When a carburetor has been sitting full of gasoline for a year or more without being run, then you will need to have the carburetor cleaned, along with draining your gasoline and changing the fuel filters.
- When you try to accelerate, does your engine hesitate? This is an indication that your power circuit is defective.

T4 carburetors stands behind their work. Our warranty covers our rebuilds and repairs to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 30 days from receipt of your rebuilt carb from T4 Carburetors. It DOES NOT cover problems of any type caused by the use of ethanol additives , dirty fuel and filter or any otherwise chemically "enhanced" gasoline, which is clearly beyond our control.
T4 Carburetors cannot be held responsible for incorrect errors in customer installation. We fully inspect each carburetor prior to delivery to the customer.
Ethanol & Additives.
Please Read..
The difficulties ethanol and other additives have caused for the car hobbyist cannot be overstated. Dealing with ethanol alone is a real challenge for us, never mind all of the additional additives which are mandated for different regions of the various states.
Some states have several different "blends" which must be sold, depending upon the region. The government claims that no more than ten percent ethanol per gallon is permitted, but what percentage is then comprised of other additives? Your diminished fuel economy alone should suggest to you that more than ten percent of your tankful is something less energy efficient than gasoline.
Possible Ethanol/additive problems that can occur:
Vapor lock
Fuel pump failure
Fuel hose failure
Failure of epoxy repairs made to carb
Fuel inexplicably gushing from the carburetor
Increased debris in the carb due to ethanol's cleaning/scrubbing characteristics
Below are some steps that I highly recommend to my customers in caring for their carbureted vehicles is:
-- The use of only Gates Barricade brand fuel hose (which is "approved for 40 different U.S. blends" , which should tell you something about the variable nature of the problem).
--Use Marine Formula Sta-Bil to treat ethanol in the fuel. It is an even more aggressive treatment than the automotive Sta-Bil Ethanol Treatment, and it is perfect for antique, muscle cars, and weekend cruisers -which remain parked a majority of the time.
Remember, just because it contains no ethanol doesn't mean that it doesn't contain other nasty additives. Play it safe and follow the above recommendations, even if you can find ethanol-free gas in your area.

Important Shipping Information
Please place the carburetor inside a plastic bag before placing in the box, this will lessen gasoline odors and keeps residual gasoline vapors from melting the plastic packing to your work.
--- Always double-box and double-address: Please use inner and outer boxes, each with its own address label to me and its own return address to you. This helps ensure that your work will be delivered to me or find its way back to you if the outer box gets damaged or the outer label is damaged.
--- Always use boxes with plenty of room inside: Be sure that there is at least 1" of clearance between every surface and protrusion of the carburetor and the same between the inner box(s) and outer box! Fill every square inch of that space with soft packing. If levers or linkages hang down below the base of the carb, please place a foam or cardboard block beneath the flat surface of the base so they cannot "bottom-out" and get bent!
--- If your carb uses an air cleaner stud, please remove it!
